Have a question? We have answers.
This section is a compilation of answers to the questions most commonly asked by our constituents. Start by following one of the links below. If you can’t find the question you wanted to ask, don’t hesitate to contact us.
What type of produce is accepted?
Any edible produce is accepted. Whether it's an ugly vegetable or you have an over-abundance, it will feed a hungry person!
How do I get the produce to Produce From The Heart?
Contact us, and we would be happy to pick it up for you. We also have drop off bins at all Community Crops garden sites. If you have a large amount on a farm, we will gather volunteers to come pick it for you.
What is gleaning?
Often times farmers have an excess of produce which they cannot sell. Gleaning is the process of collecting that produce and distributing it to soup kitchens and food banks.
When are gleaning volunteer opportunities?
Depending on the weather, gleaning usually starts in May or June, and goes thru October. We will post these gleaning dates on our calendar, Facebook page, and email alerts. These dates me come up on short notice, due to weather conditions and when the farmer harvests.
Can kids come to the gleanings?
Of course! Gleaning is a great learning opportunity for children. We encourage you to bring kids who can pick vegetables with care and follow directions. Please remember they must be supervised.
